8.9.22 Rockdale Lady Rams and parents, Unfortunately due to a shortage of umpires, we will be canceling tomorrow’s, Wednesday, August 10th game against Lukancic. Mr. Whalen, Mr. Peterson, and Dr. Merritt all hustled to try and secure an umpire until a short time ago, but were ultimately unable to do so. We will practice instead at our normal time of 8:00-9:30 AM at CB Diamond. We have another home game scheduled for this Friday at 4:15 against Taft, so we will use the next two days to get prepared for that! This is to serve as notice that the Main School Office will be open Tuesday, August 9th (6th Grade Parent Night at 5 pm & Night with Dr. Merritt at 6 pm) and Thursday, August 11th (Kindergarten Orientation at 6 pm) from 12 pm-7 pm due to evening events this week. The Main School Office will be open this Friday, August 12th from 8 am-3 pm. Anticipation will be that August 2023 the event will be back available to our Rockdale Rams and on the property of PSC! Welcome to the Rockdale family! An amazing time this morning at #StFrancis welcoming all of the new educators and administrators to surrounding school districts for the upcoming 2022-23 school year. Plus, a very special and warm Rockdale welcome to Dr. Merritt, who is our new Superintendent, and Mrs. Chojnicki, who will be teaching the third section of 1st Grade at Rockdale School! Mr. Whalen will be joining the Rockdale family as our PE/Health Teacher and Athletic Director, but was not pictured. Good morning Rockdale Ram Nation. Rise and shine! Yesterday, Dr. Merritt and I put our walking shoes on and traveled to 71 of our 145 Rockdale students’ homes, which houses 109 students, and we were able to personally speak to 71 of our Rockdale Rams! We visited a few houses North of 80 and West of Larkin, and then homes on Morris working our way east to just before Wheeler and North of Meadow. Today, Wednesday, August 3rd, as we wrap up our home visits, we will be starting on Meadow down by CB Diamond (working our way west) between the times of 8:00-9:00 am. The houses we have left are on Meadow and south of Meadow to Moen. I understand and respect that it might be early, but we are trying to beat the anticipated heat and storms later today. This has been a tremendous experience as we welcome our students back to school on Wednesday, August 17th. It has been a great time to connect with our amazing parent community as well. If we missed you, I sincerely apologize, but we did leave a flier about Dr. Merritt and myself, as well as an important date and Care Closet flier, but also a gift for our Rockdale Rams. We will start our “tour” late morning tomorrow, Tuesday, August 2nd and continue through the week until we have made a stop at each home. On behalf of Ms. Hall, from the Joliet YMCA, please find the following information regarding the After School Kid Zone being held at Rockdale School for the 2022-23 School Year. This program is a YMCA run & staffed program and is not the responsibility of Rockdale School. Any matters associated with the After School YMCA Kid Zone program should be directed to them. We are grateful this year to be able to provide the YMCA with a space. The YMCA will be offering the Kid Zone After School Enrichment Program on-site at Rockdale for the 2022-2023 school year! The Y's After School program runs on all full days of school upon dismissal until 6pm. It provides a resource-rich environment and introduces children to lessons and activities that build on what they learn during the regular school day. Your child(ren) will participate in activities that focus on: character development, arts and humanities, homework/literacy support, STEM, health/wellness and fitness, and social emotional learning. Reminder for 5th thru 8th Grade Rockdale Rams!! Our Lady Rams Softball team are entering their 2nd week of practice this Monday, August 1st at 8 am at CB Diamond. If you are still interested in joining the team, please make sure the steps below are completed. We would love to have you. Our Rockdale Rams Baseball team begins their first practice this Monday, August 1st at 9:30 am at CB Diamond. As a reminder, current Sports physical (one within the past 395 days) and finalized registration must be completed prior to our student-athletes can practice as the first games are fast approaching. The main school office opens at 8 am on Monday, August 1st for any last minute registration questions. If you only have to turn in the sports physical, it can be brought to CB Diamond at the time of practice and will be reviewed and/or processed. We are excited for the upcoming Ram Baseball and Softball seasons! Are you ready?!? All those who are interested in participating on our athletic teams will need to complete the athletic forms, which are linked on our Rockdale website at https://www.rockdale.will.k12.il.us/o/rsd/page/forms. If you are not able to print the forms, we have hard copies in our main office. These forms, along with registration for the new school year, must be completed in order to participate in our athletic program. Softball practice begins this coming Monday, July 25. A BIG shoutout to our very own Mrs. Blenck, Rockdale 1st Grade Teacher, for her participation in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting the Special Olympics. Mrs. Blenck has participated in this ceremonious event for several consecutive years as money is raised and awareness gained for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Illinois. This was a collaborative effort between the Special Olympics and our very own Rockdale Police Department as the torch made its way down Meadow Avenue and past the school. There had been a year or two hiatus due to the pandemic. In case you missed it, around 10:30 am yesterday, Monday, June 13th, the torch was run through our town of Rockdale and Mrs. Blenck, Sergeant Baikie, Officer Griffing, and Roxy were an integral part of this special event as the Flame of Hope travels 1500 miles through thousands of Illinois communities, just like Rockdale, as it makes its way to the final resting place at the Illinois Special Olympic Summer Games in Normal. Way to go Mrs. Blenck, Officer Griffing, Sergeant Baikie!! #ALL IN as #oneRockdalefamily UN GRAN agradecimiento a nuestra propia Sra.
