This afternoon, Mrs. Ortiz, our Bilingual/EL Teacher, facilitated our first LPAC, Language Parent Advisory Committee, meeting of the 22-23 school year from 3:45-4:45 pm in the Rockdale School library. It was very well attended with probably our highest attendance for such a meeting, 15 people! Some great information was shared to our EL parent community.
Our next LPAC meeting will be held Tuesday, November 15 at the Rockdale School library from 3:45-4:45 pm. You can attend in person or via Google Meet. Students can participate in fun activities in Mrs. Sommers’ classroom, while the parents attend the meeting.
Thanks again for joining us in person or virtually. Looking forward to the next meeting. A special shoutout to Mrs. Ortiz for her leadership in organizing and facilitating the meeting and to Ms. Lopez and Ms. Holt for helping to supervise and engage the students.

Esta tarde, la Sra. Last Thursday, September 22nd, our Rockdale 8th graders, along with Mr. Domenico, Mr. Olson, and Ms. Walls, were able to take a field trip to Cantigny Museum.
It was a great success in both learning and fun. Mr. Domenico did an outstanding job preparing for the trip and guiding the students through the museum. His knowledge of history and WWI and WWII made him the perfect guide for our students. Others just visiting and walking by thought he worked there as a guide! Ms. Walls was also able to provide valuable information as well since Social Studies is in her wheelhouse too. A special thanks to Mr. Olson for his efforts in chaperoning the trip and helping to make sure everything was accounted for.
The students were pretty well behaved, we had perfect weather, and the students loved climbing on the tanks. We were also able to take a walk through parts of the park and see some of the Mexican Art exhibits (huge colorful animal creatures) too.
This is an experience that can last a lifetime.

El jueves pasado, 22 de septiembre, nuestros alumnos de 8º grado de Rockdale, junto con el Sr. Domenico, el Sr. Olson y la Sra. Walls, pudieron realizar una excursión al Museo Cantigny.
Fue un gran éxito tanto en el aprendizaje como en la diversión. El Sr. Domenico hizo un excelente trabajo preparándose para el viaje y guiando a los estudiantes a través del museo. Su conocimiento de la historia y la Primera Guerra Mundial y la Segunda Guerra Mundial lo convirtieron en la guía perfecta para nuestros estudiantes. ¡Otros que solo visitaban y pasaban por allí pensaban que trabajaba allí como guía! La Sra. Walls también pudo proporcionar información valiosa ya que Estudios Sociales también está en su timonera. Un agradecimiento especial al Sr. Olson por sus esfuerzos para acompañar el viaje y ayudar a asegurarse de que todo se tuviera en cuenta.
Los estudiantes se portaron bastante bien, tuvimos un clima perfecto y a los estudiantes les encantó subirse a los tanques. También pudimos dar un paseo por partes del parque y ver algunas de las exhibiciones de arte mexicano (enormes y coloridas criaturas animales).

Our first STEM session kicked off today with Fossil Finders for some of our 1st and 2nd Graders. Students learned about fossils and went on a dig to find their own around the Rockdale School butterfly garden area. Students had a blast and found some great artifacts.
A special thanks to Mr. Olson and our other STEM staff for facilitating today’s after school event.

Concessions and the blacktop open, for securing your space, at 6:30 pm with the movie slated to begin around 7:15 pm, based on the sunset. Spots cannot be reserved prior to this time, 6:30 pm, and everyone must enter through the front pillar area by the marquee on Meadow.
The movie we are featuring this year is Minions:The Rise of Gru
Admission to the movie is free, but the concessions for the evening will be available CASH ONLY. We will have items ranging from popcorn to hot dogs to nachos to glow sticks to freeze pops to a variety of candy and soda/water.
As a reminder, students must be accompanied by an adult. Any misbehavior during the movie may result in the student being removed from the movie and the school property.
No smoking products are allowed on school grounds during any school sanctioned event. This includes vapes, e-cigarettes, etc. and individuals observed smoking on school grounds are subject to removal from the movie and school grounds.

This is to serve as notice that the Rockdale School Spirit wear items have been processed and arrived at the school after school hours this afternoon, Tuesday, September 13.
I will be sorting the orders by classroom teacher tomorrow morning. If you ordered from the online spirit store from August, please expect your child to be sent home with the items. If you did not order, please be on the lookout for the next time we open up the online spirit store in November.

With profound gratitude and appreciation, today, Patriot Day, is a holiday observed in the United States annually on September 11, to commemorate and honor the brave, selfless heroes who valiantly tried to defend our freedom and whose lives were cut short in the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Virginia, and the hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. 2,977 people died on this tragic day. That is 500 more people than the entire population of Rockdale, IL.
This year, Patriot Day, is observed today, Sunday, September 11, 2022. Since it is over the weekend, I ask that we honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 by wearing red, white, and blue tomorrow, Monday, September 12th.
Our Rockdale staff on Monday, will share age appropriate lessons, activities with their students, while sharing where they were on September 11, 2001 when you heard the news. This is an integral part of current history and I encourage parents to speak to your children about the events that unfolded that tragic day.

It is with great #RockdalePRIDE, I announce that our Rams baseball team WON tonight against Monge on “Pack the Diamond” night honoring our graduating 8th Graders. The bats were electric tonight as we scored 17 runs and played outstanding defense holding a shorthanded Monge team to only 2 runs. The game ended after the top of the 4th inning! The win tonight caps of a 3 WIN week out of 4 games!
Regional play begins next Wednesday, after an AWAY game on Monday, September 12.
The Victory Light is LIT and we will #flytheW flag on Monday!! Great job Rams!! We are proud of you and we SEE you!!

Congrats to our 8th Grader, Ryan Cooling, for hitting only the second homerun over the fence at Rockdale Stadium, aka CB Diamond, by a Rockdale student athlete. This happened last night against Elwood in case you missed it.
The first Rockdale student athlete to accomplish this feat was Hector Zavala in 2008.

Our Rockdale Rams Baseball team scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning and never looked back this afternoon at Rockdale Stadium against Elwood. 8th Grader, Ryan Cooling hit a moon shot 2-run homerun over the fence during the 11-2 victory!
Great way to continue the week with another WIN! Let’s get more W’s with two more games this week!! Let’s go RAMS!!!

Nuestro equipo de béisbol Rockdale Rams anotó 5 carreras en la segunda entrada y nunca miró hacia atrás esta tarde en el Rockdale Stadium contra Elwood. Estudiante de octavo grado, Ryan Cooling conectó un jonrón de 2 carreras por encima de la cerca durante la victoria 11-2.
¡Excelente manera de continuar la semana con otra GANANCIA! ¡Obtengamos más victorias con dos juegos más esta semana! ¡¡¡Vamos RAMOS!!!

A BIG shoutout to our Rockdale Lady Rams on a great season. Although your season game to an end this evening in the first round of Regionals against South Wilmington, you were #ALL IN and will always be #1 in our hearts. This season had games where we scored lots of runs like 17 runs was our high, Willow Reyna (6th Grader) hit a home run vs. Laraway, I believe 3 double plays total which is incredible, and we also learned to step up as a team as we have some first time softball players this year that got their feet wet while having seven graduating 8th Graders.
A special thanks to Coach Kirk and Coach Shear for your leadership this season. We could not have done it without you.
Thank you to our 8th Grade Lady Rams who put on their softball jersey for the last official time for Rockdale. Nadia Casillas, 8th Grader, hit a double tonight to score our two runs! Best of luck to you all in future athletic seasons both here at Rockdale and maybe next year in High School.

Un GRAN agradecimiento a nuestras Rockdale Lady Rams en una gran temporada. Aunque tu juego de temporada terminó esta noche en la primera ronda de las Regionales contra South Wilmington, estuviste #ALL IN y siempre serás el número 1 en nuestros corazones. Esta temporada hubo juegos en los que anotamos muchas carreras, como 17 carreras fue nuestro máximo, Willow Reyna (estudiante de sexto grado) conectó un jonrón contra Laraway, creo que 3 dobles juegos en total, lo cual es increíble, y también aprendimos a intensificar como un equipo ya que tenemos algunos jugadores de softbol por primera vez este año que se mojaron los pies mientras tenían siete estudiantes de octavo grado que se graduaban.
Un agradecimiento especial al entrenador Kirk y al entrenador Shear por su liderazgo esta temporada. No podríamos haberlo hecho sin ti.
Gracias a nuestras Lady Rams de 8º grado que se pusieron su camiseta de softbol para el último tiempo oficial de Rockdale. ¡Nadia Casillas, alumna de 8º grado, conectó un doble esta noche para anotar nuestras dos carreras! La mejor de las suertes para todos ustedes en futuras temporadas atléticas aquí en Rockdale y tal vez el próximo año en la escuela secundaria.

The Rams victory light, on the west side of the building, is lit this evening and the #flytheW flag will be waving in the main hallway of Rockdale School tomorrow!!
Our Rockdale Rams Baseball team overpowered and the bats came alive during the HOME game this afternoon at Rockdale Stadium against Laraway. Back to back triples, followed by a double capped off a 14-1 victory for our Rams baseball team.
Great way to start the week with a win. Many more chances this week to get those W’s!! Let’s go RAMS!!!

Nuestro equipo de béisbol de los Rockdale Rams dominó y los bates cobraron vida durante el juego de CASA esta tarde en el Rockdale Stadium contra Laraway. Triples consecutivos, seguidos de un doblete culminaron una victoria de 14-1 para nuestro equipo de béisbol Rams.
